Birds and the Bee's according to a 3 year old

Well, I was alone this weekend with Caleb and Naomi. Aaron went to Anchor town for his National Guard weekend and took Eli with him. Caleb went in November so this was Eli's turn to spend a spoiled weekend with Grandma-Grandma.
Anyway, I was busy in the kitchen fixing lunch for Caleb and Peach. Peach had used the bathroom and came out---well, in her birthday suit to inform me that she had infact used the potty. Caleb who has always been curious about the diffence between boys and girls and although we often don't allow them see each other without at least their underpants on as many of you probably know-it just happens!
Caleb begins to inform Peach that she does not have a pee, pee. She starts the argument "yes I do." I broke in and quickly informed Caleb of the diffrence. "You know Caleb boys and girls look diffrent. Boys have a p- and girls have a v- and thats just the way God made us." I didn't want to go into any details but I was really tired of the conversation and just wanted to move on.
As I was talking I began walking Peach back to the bathroom to get her clothes and Caleb followed us. His response "So your saying boys have p-" and before he good get the words out Peach jumps in with her response--

Life is busy!

We celebrated Eli's 8th Birthday on January 29. I can't believe it has been 8 years. My baby is really growing up. Eli is a smart and friendly kid who loves to talk! He is in Second Grade this year and between all the socializing he does at school still manages to get his work done.
Caleb, Peach and our cat Zukko- before church last Sunday. They are starting to look so much alike.
Aaraon and I went to the First Annual Firemans Ball. It was fun and a great excuse to get out of the house without the kids. Beth and Zach kept the kids for us.
The Koehlers thought my choice of footwear for the party was funny! What else is an Alaska girl gonna wear to the Ball. I couldn't find my other glass slipper.
Peachie and I got flowers from Aaron for Valentines Day. He had to work so they were delivered. This was her first flower delivery.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Back from Anchorage

The whirlwind trip to Anchorage to have Elijah seen is over...and now comes the treatment part. Dr. Arnold is amazing! What a cool doctor...he came in and starting talking to Eli like Donal Duck! It was so much fun to watch him work with him. =)

Anyhow, here's the skinny. We're not sure how far back it goes, but Eli hasn't seen well out of his right eye for some time. The brain does some funky stuff when the 2 eyes see different, and actually wind up ignoring the signal from the bad eye and lean on the good eye. So basically, we're looking at a contact lense for the correction of the magnification, and glasses over top to correct the astigmatism and protect his good eye. AND, he'll have to wear a patch over the left eye for 2 hours a day, to forec his brain to use his right eye.....and hopefully after 4 weeks of this, he'll see a 2 line improvement on the chart. At least we should expect something like that.

It's more about retraining the brain to use that eye, then just correcting the vision.

And that's that.....

We ask that you pray for Beth and Zach. They're have some trouble getting out of Guatamala right now....and we all want them to be home. If you don't know them, they're friends of ours here in Kodiak.

Love you all, will talk soon.

Aaron

Checking In!

Well now that Christmas is over and the tree is finally tucked away for another year we are already getting very busy. The boys are back in school-thank you! I start school tomorrow and am going to busy with those classes. No rest for the weary you know.
The news this week is that Eli needs glasses and eye treatment. Eli got hurt at school just before Christmas break. He had been complaining that his eye was blurry so we took him in to see the eye doctor and were informed that he had ambliopia. Basicly his left eye see's 20/20 but his right eye is not focusing. In fact the right eye goes black when he focusses on anything for too long.
There is a very good eye doctor in Anchorage a specialist for children. We are taking a trip tomorrow via the Coast Guard C130 to see him and get a little more information on what can be done. We will be in town for two days. Shopping!!!!
Hopefully we can get a little more insight as to what the future holds for our boy. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers his appointment is very early Wednesday morning.
Sorry no pictures.

Poppop Sassard's Traditional Ambrosia

For as far back as anyone can remember, one of the family traditions, which started well before my grandfather was born, was to make a citrus ambrosia for Christmas.

My mother's father, Poppop Sassard, was from the south. Growing up in South Carolina and Florida, citrus fruits were available in abundance. My Great Grandmother made this ambrosia for as long as my grandfather could remember back. This was passed down to him, who then took it to Baltimore where it was carried on as a tradition there every Christmas.

I have fond memories of Christmases past, where all the adults of the household were busy helping in the kitchen, peeling, and seeding, and dicing all the fruit that goes into the mix. So here my mother is, passing this tradition on to me....close to my 30'th birthday, and what I truly consider the end of my childhood. Now I'm an adult, spending hours in the kitchen, making this delicious Christmas tradition for my own part of the family.

Here's Mom and I workin on it.

The First Presents of CHRISTMAS!!!!

So the first box of presents arrived from Christmas this year. It's from my Dad and Sandy in Texas....and boy were we surprised! The kids just went CRAZY! It's gonna kill them to wait till Christmas to unwrap them, now that there's presents under the tree....but that's the rule of the house. Anyhow....here's a picture of the kids near the tree......and Thanks Dad, we love you.

I do know how Blogs work!

I know, I know its my job to update the blog. And I have only one excuse-okay well I guess I don't really have a very good excuse but I have pictures! We finshed OZ! Total OZ time 35 hours of practice and with 5 three hour preformance and a 2 hour curtain call 25 hours preformance time. Eli loved every minute of it and I have to say that he has a talent for theatre!
